Stuart Tanks?

Hi Les (or others!),
Can you fill me in on a few things in regards to those pics please.

i`m no strategist, but what would be the major advantages of having a stuart as a gun tractor over an armoured vehicle/tank?

i`m guessing fire power of the 6pdr over the 37mm? (is that correct as i`m not an armourist? either!) and speed/manouverability of the vehicle?

Secondly, what are the 5 tubes lined up across the front of the hull below the headlights and also in the long line infront of the driver above the headlights?
