Well Bob, the governmnet runs this crazy organisation that will deliver private messages. It all starts when you write something (this implies that, in this day of the internet and e-mail, you know what writing is and how to do it). You will need a pen or a pencil. This can be a challenging item to find but one may have rolled under your keyboard. Next, you will need paper. Hint, this is the same stuff that spews out of your printer. Once you have your message written you put the paper in an envelope. Envelopes are mass-produced origami, most are plain but some have windows (version unknown but they all seem to be compatible with the above-mentioned paper.)
At this point you write the person's name and address - another hint. There is no '@' in the address. Finally, you get to put a stamp on the envelope. This is something that you have to pay for with cash because Paypal won't cut it.
Now comes the incredible part. You put all of this into one of those red boxes on the corner - the one that you thought was there to keep the newspaper boxes company. Every now and then a red truck will pull up beside it and empty the contents from one bag to another. Give the whole process some time and that piece of paper, wrapped in origami, with pen marks all over the front and a decorative sticker in the corner, will be delivered to Angus, regardless of where he lives!!! All of this without the intervention of an ISP, no mega-mail servers, no T-1 line, nothing!!!
Of course, by now the carriers remains have rotted into oblivion. You might want to try phoning him. A telephone is an outdated device used for.......
