G'day Bob,

I have also noted this difference in manufacture with the VR (Victorian Railways) Newport Workshops carriers. You will also find that the rear lifting eyes are attached with 5 rivets - one in each corner and one in the centre. The hull number I can add to your list is #731 - LP2 made in 1941.

I have checked five different South Australian Railways hulls ranging from #1313 to #4588 and none of these have rivets (either hull or lifting lugs). I have also seen a Metropolitan Gas Company hull and this has no rivets.
