Default Let me welcome you to the asylum.

You know of course that collecting CMPs is a terminal condition. Post some pictures of your finds so we can figure out just how crazy you are. One of these days we should have a contest for the vehicle in the worst condition that makes it all the way back to running restored vehicle.

Cheers and welcome to our crazy little group.

Default Green disease strikes again

Welcome Maverick, you've come to the right place to find info on restoring CMPs. This here's the United Nations of M.V. restorer web sites. MLU has members from just about every Allied, Commonwealth, Nato, Warsaw Pact, non-aligned, Northern and Southern hemisphere country imaginable. You'll also find this website is useful if you need advice on haggis, vegemite, women, cigars, Scotch (single malt only, of course!), marmite, lubricating oil and grease, engine swaps, tyres, tires, military ranks, U.C.'s, paint, beer, Tim-Tams, rust, fighting terrorism, weapons, weather reports, gossip, world news, uniforms, carburetors, America's opinion of the French, jokes, travelogues, pretty waitresses, minutiae, unit markings, reenactments, aircraft, landing craft, arts and crafts, arm bands, marching bands, bandwidth, politicians, the economy, gas prices, and of course M.V.'s

Sapper forgot to mention MLU also has recipes and weather reports

Okay, I'm outta here now.

Welcome Maverick I rarely step out of the Sargeants Mess and History areas but spotted "New Member" and came to say hello and Welcome. I'm not "a guy" nor do I have any old CMP's to restore so can't do shop-talk, therefore can't help with any of it.

Karmen.

Default Back body Data Plate

My F60S LAAT only has this data plate intact, is it possible to work out a rough build date using this ?

Default more info

Here in the UK we have to prove to the dvla how old the vehicle is so it can be registered for road use. The door plate is missing and i believe the chassis was not stamped with a number. So in my case i have to get a verification officer out from the Military Vehicle Trust who will verify the year of build which i can then present to the dvla. Since demob i believe it was used by a local bus company who drove it on trade plates and used it as a recovery vehicle.

Alan, it seems the body for your truck was built on 22nd of July, but which year? My guess is you'd be better of posting some of the build details for your truck so we can make an educated guess based on instrument panels, roof hatches, hub lifting slings etc.

HTH,
Hanno

Thanks Hanno i reckon on it being 1944 / 5 it has sling hubs no roof hatch tho, also the later round dials on the instrument panel.

Default CMP Ford F30 LAA Value

Having to do some real soul searching about my brace of laats, really don't think i will be doing much with this F30. So maybe wondering what its worth on todays market. Its was stood for a long time outside before i got it but underneath all is complete.

No. LRDG trucks were cab 12 models. This is a cab 13 but wheelbase is the same.

Default LAA chassis

Actually, most of the LRDG Fords were 11 cabs, despite the first batch arriving in March 1941. I have never heard mention of more F30's arriving, but there were possibly eight No 12 cab F8's and 20 F60's. Yes, I have done one of each of them too. Photos nearly always show hooks over front bumpers, Chev axles, pull switches on patrol trucks. See recent find by Kuno Gross on this web site. I'm just about finishing my second LRDG replica F30 patrol vehicle.
P.S. anyone need a LAA chassis and axles, plus wheels, I have a good one. Circa 1942/43 period.
