He is the executor as eldest of about 4 siblings, so has been very busy dealing with all of the neccesary practicalities that must be dealt with when someone passes. He's on the other side of dealing with the most immediate things and can be a bit quiet now. So many things to be dealt with, and at such a time

I'll ask him about the "soldiers" tradition and if the USA Soldiers hold a similar tradition.

Distinguished Service Cross indeed. Don't prod him too hard about it, most of them are too proud to ack what they did, and think that their pals deserved more. It's understandable.
