The loss of my dad in 1998 still brings me to tears. But you assholes know that. He would have loved all of this.
Bob, you DO have our sympathy. ![]()

Your support is appreciated.
In the age old tradition of soldiers writing the name of a loved one on their vehicles....... my will be scripted in white on the bonnet ...."Lettie"........ Mom's name was Leatitia. Bob C.

I don't recall hearing about this tradition for soldiers, but I love the whole idea of it. I'm sorry I also don't recall if I ever heard about what your Mom and all of you were going through for some time, and I really am glad that those hard times are past for your Mom and all of you. Its hard to see someone you love suffer. A friend of mine, a Vietnam Vet who received a DSM (?) (USA distinguished service medal?) lost his mother Dec 12 and he and his siblings are going through a similar time as you and your family. I'm glad that you and my friend, and your families, have decades of memories and experiences of your Mom's, because they really are treasures to have, when we can't have them with us still. I love my memories of my parents. The grief parts just told me how much I loved and missed them. Very mixed feelings that came in waves, and I just let them happen. It takes getting used to, for sure. Bless Bless ... from Carman |

When we spoke a few weeks ago on our furnace buying mission,we said then that your mother would probably make Christmas... For those that don't know,Bob's mom was suffering from cancer and just about every other thing that can aflict the aged...but she was one tough lady,a fighter and she still liked to have a beer... So having your truck named after her is a very fitting rolling memorial for one tough truck named for one tough lady...Lettie... ... ![]() ![]()

That decoration to your friend was a DSC, second only to the Medal of Honour. It is said by my 'murricun chums that anyone earning the DSC DESERVED the MoH but pissed off someone down the line. You told me his story a long time back and I agree with my latter declaration. The Brits have a long-standing tradition of downgrading decorations as well, especially under Montgomery. If you ever see an MM, MC or DCM on one of our old guys, you can bet they deserved better.

Back then, the Silver Star was given out for breathing in and out regularly (particularly by hofficers), but the DSC was something special.

My friend, God can be kind, even though at the time we may think not.
I had are very good friend in SC USA, who fought cancer for 20 years. Used to try and talk to her every week, but towards the end, often she was not well enough to do so. The last I spoke to her, she was really with it, and said. "God has tested me long enough, and it is time for me to with him". Shortly after that she left us, and when I spoke to her daughter afterwards she said that she was reading her mothers journal. It recorded unknown to me, every letter and conversation. She went on to say that they were going to keep passing it down through the coming generations. She was a real Lady, and went to her husband when I had known her for about six years, to say that at the Xmas exchange time, I had called her darling. He said after 50 years of marrage that he thought that would be quite in order. I met her because in 1945, her brother was lost here in an aircraft crash. not found until 1994. Taught me a lot about faith, when I told her his plane had been found, she said I have prayed every day, that he would be found. My immediate thought was that perhaps God was not going to answer her, just goes to show she understood more than I did. Sometimes my friend, things happen for the best, I have always remembered my mother the way she was in the good years. Sad time for you all, and our thoughts and best wishes go out to you. Regards Col
