Can anyone i.d. these trucks please? First, the 6-wheelers...and what is that in the foreground? Diesel generator?

I don't see anything other than GMC CCKW open cab stuff there David.

The big engine may be a genset unit but diesel?

I agree with Gordon. GMC-CCKW's. in the second photo.

Top photo shows a single rear axle in front of the unit so is it a 4X4 or a GMC-CCKW still to get it's rear axle. Unit behind may be a compressor unit but I am not sure.

Looks me like a FWD har and the engine for a snowblower, I think it is a gasoline engine, because for a diesel the starter looks me a bit small.

That would make 1000% sense to me...HAR-1 with the Sno-go front atachment. This would then dare to 1944ish. It was a Climax engine! Hendrik is I think spot on after comparing the photo with others I have of completed snow blowers with the Bros front gear.

It must be a FWD, the very light chassis and the square rear axle are typical FWD.

The left one is a GMC CCKW and the one next to it is definitely a Diamond T 980 or 981, the shape of the mudguard and way the bonnet opens are the clue.

First photo.....before reading all the replies I was sure it was a FWD snowblower with Climax auxillary engine.

Yhe little black spot on the front bumper should say 981, but who has seen the Diamond wrecker.

..it's a 981 I think from other photos that will appear in the lovely book that I am currently putting together for publication asap. You lot won't be interested in the final section unless you are into Bedford OWBs say, but you will like the myriad of military vehicle photos I hope. Wartime and immediate post-war, pre-rebuild and rebuilt. Oh! And some nice Yank stuff as well.

One final query: were Leyland Beavers used in the war please?

Could be either, as yellow looks more whiet than white sometimed in monochrome. I only have a low-res scan, and can only say that it's a # 13 cab. It could have white paint as in undercoat after repair? Or it could be very light grey.

I have a photo that I am working on...the truck has a left-hand mirror and wipers parked on the left, sweeping to the right. I cannot see the steering wheel, and wondered whether at least the mirror, stuck ou on a stalk, suggested lhd or rhd?

Sorry...wrong impression given/misunderstanding allowed? The book is on inter alia wartime British assembly of military vehicles: Brit, Canuck and Yank based on 200+ photos that have been lent. Apart from FWD HAR-1 photos there are some FWD SU-COE ones.

I agree that a book on FWD would sell perhaps three copies? That said I am rather interested in the WW1 FWD trucks and their license-built clones. The FWD company rebuilt and sold ex-WD FWD and clones from their premises at Slough Trading Estate from about 1921, and then I think that they were eventually subsumed into Hardy and then AEC by the early Thirties.

that body is very similar to the one i am nearing completion on rebuilding with my har-1. my truck was definitely built at the wisconsin plant but as for the bodies i have no idea who? built them or where? but i imagine fwd employed the same firm to build all wooden at the time as only limited numbers of all fwds models were ever built.

Can anyone send me a copy of the Gregg Canadian spec book please on the SU-COE? I am interested in the engine type etc.
