Bob,

I got lucky and the 261 was slush box equipped from the factory. That also meant that it came with hydraulic lifters - and a flexplate.

The 216 wore a 10 1/2" clutch, so I stuck with that. If I were to have gone to the '12volt' flywheel on the 261 I would have had to hunt down a flywheel and starter to match - and the 216 parts were in great shape.

I finally found a carb stud ( not you Jiffero ) so the Rochester B is now where it is supposed to be. The 261 carb linkage bolted to the block and it seems to work fine - snaking its way thru the intake/exhaust system.
