Sorry about that! I have 3 different editions of "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" sitting on the shelf above my computer - must be old timers setting in.
The car will be for sale in Europe on arrival (delivery after Normandy). Will take it to the Southsea show the weekend before Normandy for inspection (if we make it that far!) Have no idea of what it is worth in that area so looking for adice when the time comes. Lang |

Lang,
The Dodge looks outstanding - it must be relieved at long last to have finally been given Australian citizenship. I see that the vehicle is a 6 Div asset but what unit are you depicting with the 6/14 ?? Looks like artillery colours ? Adelaide to Brisbane in 2 days in a 60 year old vehicle with a crook radiator. I dips me lid. Jack |

Jack,
The 6/14 indicates Divisional Artillery Heaquarters of the 6th Division. I am a bit of an infantry enthusiast actually but they had boring single colours so I went with the red/blue artillery scheme. The vehicle number was produced by chance. I bought a 2 gallon water/fuel can (now mounted on the front) stamped 1941 at the Toowoomba swap meet a couple of weeks ago. As I was stripping the paint off I found the original "light stone" desert colour and on the side in stenciled letters about 2 1/2 inches high was painted M8363. Could the Dodge have any other number? Personalised Plates Queensland (subsidiary of Qld Transport who rake in millions catering to egos) have given me for free the registration number DDI944 to be in keeping with the expedition. Lang |

Well, that is about all on the Dodge for 6 weeks. Loaded it on the ship yesterday and will see it in Aqaba, Jordan on the 20th April.
Hope to be able to post the odd photo along the way. Booked a ferry for 29th May to UK for the Solent Area MVT show and will be coming back to France with the poms on the 1st June. All this is assuming the Dodge keeps going, our money keeps going and we are not arrested! Thanks to group members for your advice. Lang |

You will be in good company at the Solent show as there will be a group of fellow Aussies there as well, unfortunately no VB and any beer there is likely to be warm ![]() Richard |

The AIF seemed to have prefered Fords and Chevs as staff cars.
I recall somewhere , maybe it was Mike Cecil who pointed out that the AIF only took away Fords and Chevs as a deliberate policy in order to reduce the logistics problem with spare parts . That light stone Richards bodied 1940 Dodge was highly unlikely to have seen any overseas service with the AIF . Some 1940 cars did escape military service , doctors and other essential users could apply to buy a new car . Hire car companies were another case where exemptions applied . I think blameless Blamey had his own car in the M.E., it was found derelect somwhere in the 1980's . As far as Gen. Macarthur goes , he may have seen it while passing through Adelaide sometime . The US army here in OZ were issued a whole menagerie of cars , some odd ball things were comandeered from civilian owners . Mike
