Dave,

The problem is the same as what I had. Your shift linkage is bent. Either the rod that goes back to the transmission or its the upside down that goes directly on top of the shift tower. Believe me, it only has to be bent out of shape by a very small amount to throw off the shifting.

Take a moment and removethe U shaped piece it from the carrier, and shift the gears directly on the shift tower by hand with someone behind the wheel with the clutch in. I think you will find it works.

I really don't suspect its an internal problem.
