Mannum Blitz

Hi all
During all the excitement of the experimental Carrier I caught up with another MLU lurker, Kym in Mannum, South Oz. Kym has a F15A, we believe 1944, that was used as a Royal Automobile Association (RAA) tow truck by Lyon Motors in Berri, Sth. Oz between 1950 and 1974. Kym intends to restore it leaving it as the tow truck that depicts an after the war usage of a military vehicle.
As an aside Kym is also trying to track down another Blitz that was for many years the Palmer, Sth. Oz, fire truck. Any information would be welcome.

This truck has a tailgate. Since seeing this truck I have seen another with the same back and tailgate. Were these tailgates standard?

It's a late production F15A, Canadian production.

These are fairly rare in Australia - all the early fully imported Canadian 15-cwts (as opposed to the ones with Aussie bodies) were on the F15 chassis.

These ones have all the late production features but have Canadian built cabs, hence the standard doors instead of canvas on Aussie 3-ton production.

A nice find.

And finally, the step. Is this a '44 or'45 truck. I can never remember which year had just "Ford" and "Ford Canada". Someone will tell me.

Generally '43 was just "FORD" and 44/45 "FORD CANADA"

The tailgate looks right for the body that appears to be of the 2C1 type but I don't recognize the lighting. Photo 3 is the body ID plate which appears to read 42 03 2C1 5013, which I interpret as a 2C1 body made March 1943 serial # 5013. I can't make out the maker's name but I am fairly sure it gives Tillsonburg as the place of manufacture.

The tailgate is correct for the body. I picked one of these up from Narembeen WA a few years ago when I was restoring my C15. It takes a bit of jiggling to get the swinging lock pin in its correct alignment !

The tailgate has the moon shaped cutouts which can be used as steps when the tailgate is down and it should also have small rounded rectangular cutouts on either side, presumably to allow following vehicles to see the tail/stop lights when the tailgate is down and flapping. An interesting but somewhat impractical notion.

Note the body has a Canadian Top & Body Corporation Ltd, Tilbury, Ontario body ostensibly made in 1942.

Tilbury fits the spacing on the body tag better than my suggestion of Tillsonburg.

Hi All this is my first posting after "lurking" for too long or so Bob tells me.. Thanks Bob for the posting showing my Old Girl she looks like she fits in nicely.. The comments so far are a help as I am no expert on the subject..
My interest started after seeing pics of the Ford Blitz Dad drove home from Darwin in 1950.. She was found in the jungle and rebuilt with all new parts also "found" there abouts.. It must have been a slow old trip home.. I will try to post some pics one day when i work out how too...
I have tried to buy lots over the years but never found the one I wanted until this one came along.. I intend to do here up in her post war livery as a tow truck..
I will try to attach a pic of the day I got her home just to see if I am computer literate..!!!??
Well this is a start and I'm looking forward to many more..

Thanks to you all for the welcome and I realised later that i should have added to the current thread.. Thanks Keith for sorting that out for me.. I suppose I will learn as I go along..
Then again some people never learn.. I grabbed a crank handle over the weekend on my old crusher unit powered by a Buzzacott motor with my thumb OVER the handle and she backfired and broke my wrist.!! Lesson here for all..

On a recent Trip WAY up north in South Australia I found this tray body in a station rubbish dump.. Its in A1 condition and solid as a rock and is the exact tray on my old girl above..
They have cut out two panels in the floor but apart from that its not even dented.. The tail board is in top condition..
My guess is it was taken off when the body was bought and just left.. As for the body No sign of it within 100 miles.!!
Still learning with the picture size so forgive me if its not quite right..

The area where the tray is dumped is full of recent rubbish but there is a lack of really old "goodies" ..
Next trip up there it looks like the tray is coming back to Mannum..

Well I managed to undo and lift the old Jib crane off today not a bad effort with a broken wrist.!! (Well I thought so anyway.!!)
This picture is as nature intended her I suppose..
The following two show the cutouts in the tailboard so that you can still see the tail lights with the tailboard down..
