I have just collected a carrier from outback Queensland and was wondering if anyone can help me ID the vehicle. As you can see most of the armour has been removed and I was wondering if there was any way of identifing the vehicle. Are there serial numbers stamped on the body? I wasn't able to locate the original engine or gearbox for the vehicle. I can follow up with more photos if anyone is interested.
Thanks Darren

This is a UK or Canadian built carrier. The WD number (not a hull or serial No.)was stamped on the edge of the vertical armour in front of the driver, which is gone.

Darren:
Take a look at the left rear corner (all directions as if you are sitting in the driver's seat)... the angle iron that held the upper rear vertical plate may still have the hull number stamped on it. Look about one inch in from the left side. The stamoped numbers are about 1/3 inch high. With the hull number you may be able to narrow the range of the carrier serial number which would help date it for you. there are a couple of registers out there that compare hull and serial numbers. Good luck! ![]() Mike

Judging by the brackets onthe front plate for the crowbar, it is an earlier carrier. I think those were deleted after the first couple thousand carriers. As Mike mentioned, the number on the back corner will bring you to within a few hundred of the vehicles serial number.

Great find
Its too bad most of the stuff that had the numbers on it had been cut off. Hopefully the number at the bck end will still be legible. The brackets that Rob is talking about are somthing I would love to get my hands on. My UC has all the holes for them. If anyone has some please let me know.

Great find Darren.
Good luck with the big job ahead. I have an Enlish Mk 3, with tracks and wheels, but no armour or internals. Send me a PM and we can keep in contact and maybe help each other out. I might even start an english carrier register.

Thanks for the help. I have attached some more photos for your interest.
Can anyone give me a rough number of British carrier that Australia got? Did we stop receiving them once we started building our own?

I spent a day going through the property dump and found some small bits but the property owner claims that that this was the engine cover that belongs to this vehicle. I strongly suspect that it was from an Australian carrier. The bits leaning against it are all I could find from what I believe is British engine cover. He also claims that its the only carrier on the property but considering all the Australian parts I found scattered around the paddock there is probably another hull laying around. He wasn't fully aware of what this vehicle was so he's probably not what he has got. I even tried to put this cover in the vehicle just in case they tried using it at one stage but it doesn't go close to fitting.

Yes the frame rail is the one you would need. Luckily if you can't find the other side it the easier one to make as it is just a straight piece.

Show us a picture of the engine bed rails. I believe that English carriers used a std channel (sharp corner) section, whereas Canadian carriers used a rolled channel. (rounded corner) Like jordan said, It's the front frame you want, and yes its a good carrier in that it still has lots of its bits.

Having had another look I'd say its English because of the welded on grip on the clutch pedal, and the design of the clutch footrest.

Darren can you put up a pic of the hull side behind the rear bogey wheel, and the top of the rear vertical panel from the inside?

Hi Nigel;
here's one to get started: http://www.canadianregister.co.uk/index.html There is also the CMP register created by the late (and much admired) Peter Ford but I'm not sure its status these days. I dig up some more. Cheers! Mike

The vehicle is stored on the family property because I have ran out of room at home. This is the best photo of the rear of the vehicle until I get another a chance to take some more.
Thanks!

Yes. it's definitely an English built carrier. Most of theparts have part numbers on them, and the majority of the parts on this carrier will be prefixed "TL" as opposed to "CTL"
