Yes, early and later front ends are different. The first jobs had the armour end just below the intake lovers leaving a rather beak-like front. The later ones had a faired in lower section that, to me anyway, looks rather smart. Other differences are in armoured shielding for the turret ring and pistol ports (added and removed respectively).

The rumour of a Mk.2 seems to relate to Otters with no turrets. I don't think there's any truth to this other than perhaps some speculation on the drawing board. A similar rumour about a Mk.2, 37mm gun equipped, Fox exists but appears equally unfounded.
