Its 3.15.am, I'm tired from not enough sleep, its cold but im up and dressed. My mate Pete is due any minute so i put the kettle on, went outside and started up my semi for warmup. Quick slash in the grass then back inside for my morning coffee. Pete turns up, promp as usual, thurmus in hand (container of hot water for coffee on the run). Gave the missus a kiss, she said good luck I'll see you tonight. In the truck and we're off on a mission of mercy and recovery. Great time of day to be on the road cause there's bugger all else apart from other trucks.

We arrive safe and sound and make our way to a little skillion roof style humpy. Covered with secondhand corrugated iron. Still as strong today as it was when it was first built years ago, so we proceeded aroun the front.

A sqeeze of petrol down the carby throat, ignition connected, climb in the drivers seat with all the spiders and webbs. Give her a tractor tow for about 20 yards and it happened, just like when they gave power to Frankenstein. "ITS ALIVE". Bang bang cough fart, she was away. the only problem was that there was no spring on the accelerator. Screamed its gutts out, got rid of a heap of carbon, then i lifted the pedal with my foot and drove her on to my truck. Very exciting.

Back home safe, My 3 year old Alex is very excited cause her dad brought home her new tank.

Colin, you need to go away on holiday for a while, that way everytime I dial up MLU I wont be presented with another outstanding find in the back blocks of Australia. To top it all of which brought a tear to my eye was that with a bit of gas you then drove it onto the transporter

They have used the standard carrier filler and outlet,and just soldered them to the 44, I will leave the light on in the shed just stick the old girl in there and drink off the bill, Ron,

ron, seems a bit strange. If thats what they did then they even went to the trouble of putting a concave in the drum. When you look close it sure looks manufactured to me. But you could be very well right.

I suspect what you really have is an Eprom drum.
They had a special liner on them, amd where used by the air force to hold water methonal for the injection system on some of our recip aircraft engines. If that is the case then the bung is in the right place and would have been there since new. The give away is the two centre rolled drum to allow drum to be roller without damaging the liner. When I was in the air force these had a $500 deposit from the supplier. Regards Col
