It seems that something like winter has arrived. Snow clearing was in order to start the day. Rob put the snow tires onto his daily driver. We attached the snow blower to the tractor, melted the ice block out of the impeller and demonstrated that the blower still blew. The scrap merchant did a "no show" so we are thinking of waiting to spring and doing scrap removal as a "self help" project.
The ritual of Breakfast/Lunch at Chez Marie was duly observed. A new waitress was in attendance. We aren't quite sure how she reacted to three unknown clowns walking in and asking for "the usual". It probably didn't help that when she asked for details on what the usual was she heard phrases like "snotty eggs". HUP wheels and other 16 inch wheels were measured for comparison, and yes, HUPs are "different" in this area too compared to real trucks. Rob took photos and may post once other duties are done. Rob continued his procect to clean up HUP wheels to mount his new tires. Bob and I went out into the field and brought a frame back to recover parts. it's so much less work to bring the project to the tools than the other way around. Also, less work finding things you drop if the snow has been cleared or packed down. Axles were removed from the frame, wheels from axles and the rear axle brought in for disassembly and recovery of fiddly little bits. An amazing amount of heat assistance was needed to break 60+ years of rust bond. |
