In theory, all vehicles used by the Canadian Army Overseas had a "C" added in front of the War Department census number.

An exception to this was in the case of British vehicles which were rented to the Canadian Army Overseas.
The Brits supplied Canada with blocks of numbers and these numbers were applied at one of the Canadian Mechanization Depots or at an Ordnance depot.
