Jon, a transport Sargeant at my old unit 192 AEF Abbotsford would wear a lanyard with his DEUs. I asked him about it and he related a story of how an abandoned artillery battery was recovered by members of a transport unit and since then they have been allowed to wear the lanyard as a battle honour.
