Maybe they're bumpers not jerrycans? you know, for a bit of delicate parking. Thats why they'd be on the side too, just in case it was rolled of a truck by a certain Aussy tank owner!
Why is it every second Jeep has US stars plastered on the bumper? Surely the amount of Generals required would have outnumbered the GI's. I have seen this habit has now passed on to at least one Austin Champ here in Aus, which would surely be pushing the boundries of belief. (a touch of the Agent 86's...."Would you believe....")
Did like the little Fox in the last pic though...

The "Bonsai" tank is not a French one but an Italian "L3" (presume that the "L" is not the short form for LARGE in this case). It was not a real tank but only a tankette as it was built by many nations in the early 1930ies. Thought to be a "moving pillpox / MG-stand" as support to the infantry, the Italian propagande made TANKS out of this tiny vehicles...
...later on the British propaganda counted the as TANKS as well ;-)
