From memory of a photo seen before on the internet, yes, similar although the RAF one was even more stylish, with a balloon winch installed within the rear of the body. From What I have read, there were only 3 built. I am pretty sure it is based on a 7V as it was built in Dagenham during the war and was forward control layout.

The MofS charts show that there was a Fordson 7V 5-6 ton chassis with front end, which would have had a body incorporating a cab: the furniture vehicle in the photos illustrates. There was also a chassis-cab version.

That sounds like what this vehicle was based on. The styling has to be seen to be believed for a wartime vehicle. Wish I could remember where I saw the photos of it

Richard, I think I recall the vehicle you are referring to. As far as I can remember, it was blue (and red?) and was offered for sale on Ebay. It was featured on this forum but I cannot find it now. Will keep looking!

Suppose i had better poke my nose in here somwhere, like all of you i remember something about the 7V balloon winch but cant remember where i saw it. I have had a quick look but at the moment cant find a photo, however whilst on the subject of rare balloon winches what do your records show about this version mounted in a Dodge Kew 6x4 chassis

Another one on the Barrage Ballon trucks, its difficult to tell the make but i suspect a Fordson Sussex, not sure if the crew are giving the victory sign or up yours

That is a Coles EMA Utility crane, built from 1938 for the Air Ministry.

Thanks Hanno, for the photo of the Coles Crane. One like that would be just the right size for Castleton. It seems the UK and Australia had all the neat looking cranes.

Barry, yes it looks like a good sized crane for CMP restorations, it does however seem to be of the trailered type? I think one of the best tools to have nowadays is a forklift.

Hi, I have just joined. I am in Horncastle in Emgland, and have a few pieces of RAF kit.

I have an Ex RAF AEC Matador, an Ex RAF Thornycroft mighty Antar, paired with an ex RAF Dyson 50 Ton, 32 wheeled plant transporter trailer.

The Mighty Antar is ex RAF Airfield Construction Branch, and the trailer was bought by the RAF to move tracked vehicles and large Airfield construction equipment.

While searching the web for RAF AIRCRAFT! - this photo came up of GMC Otters- presumably with the RAF and with the sand and black camo it could be Italy 1944-45.

Can anyone identify the marking on the hull side - it looks like a playing card

George, while revisiting this old thread, I wonder what happened to your photo and how your Fordson N looks now?

By the way if you look on the RN Vehicles thread you will see an FAA Fordson in Colour that appears to be matt brown. Is this the same colour as yours?

I will send Larry a picture of my 1943 RAF Fordson tractor that hauled fuel to the Halifaxes and Lancasters .Hope he can post it for me as I have a problem posting .pictures .This tracter was brought to Canada after the war from UK and when I got it I have been looking for another one like it but no luck .I have a picture of one with the fuel wagon .It has a very hi speed gear in it so as to get off the runway fast when the planes were comming in .
