I'm sure most of us have enjoyed the images of the French scrapyards recently, which then got me thinking....... Let's put some pictures up of English scrapyards and their relevant contents. I'm afraid the pictures I have are not for the faint hearted, as these poor old war horses have been standing for several decades.
RIP (Rust In Peace)

Fabulous pics, Keith, thanks for sharing!

Had to take a sit down though, to absorb it all

Reminded me of the first and only CMP I ever found in a Dutch scrapyard. A C60L chassis/cab which did not look too bad until I opened the door and the doors crumbled from their hinges. Typically, the yard owner was asking way too much and last thing I heard about it was that it was scrapped because of a lack of interest. . . . .

Cheers,
Hanno

Hanno, I did warn you !
Radek, these pictures were taken just 3 weeks ago, as during the spring, most of the trucks are covered by brambles and green foliage. I was actually looking for a part for my Dodge, which incidentally came from this yard 30 years ago, and knowing that there was a lot of ex mil vehicles in the yard, took my camera along. I intend to revisit the yard again soon, to take some more pictures of yet more trucks, and I'll have a word with the owner.
Attached are two shots of the remains of two F15a 's

Two more pictures, this time the remains of an early WC51. There is another C30 near this Dodge, which I'll try to photograph next time round. I also want to get some more pictures of the F60 and the D60, and before David asks, there are no data plates on any I've looked at so far.

Default Rust

Now I can see why some of you blokes get so excited when you see pictures of our CMP wrecks with only a small percentage of the rust you experience. Salt (and a wet climate) does amazing things to steel doesn't it?

One of the few benefits ( the only one from our perspective perhaps) of our loooong drought is it will have extended the life of our rusty relics here by more than a decade.

thank you for posting these pics. i'm amazed at the level of decay these vehicles have suffered. the area where i live isn't that different from the u.k. climate wise, damp and as close to salt water as one could get. when i finally found my 12 cab, it had sat, overgrown with flora, for at least 20 years. it was also located about 40 feet from the banks of a salt water harbour. while there was very little traces of any kind of paint, the sheet metal survived rather well, when compared to your photos. also, i didn't see any cab air intake louvers on the 11 cab 60cwt picture you posted...it must be an early production vehicle

cheers!!

What's more amazing is that some folk accually buy and restore vehicles in that condition and worse. I once saw a vintage bus magazine from England showing restorations from these type of 'wrecks' !

Must be some truth in that saying about "Mad Dogs and Englishmen"!

Default Have seen it before

Hello Keith,

I was there about 20 years ago, we were able to salvage some parts from a Humber Heavy Utility and some parts for an Austin, there were also some dodge 1/2 ton Carryall's and Ambulances I believe. The most special vehicle we found was a GMC ACKWX-353 should be an ex pre war French contract diverted to the UK. I wonder how much is left of the vehicles, as they were almost in the same shape as you found them.

Green greetings

Hendrik van Oorspronk

PS.Niel the steeringbox from your C15TA came from this place, from a cab 11 or 12

Default same yard

I too visited this yard many years ago, at the time there were two 11 cab Ford quads there, both in awful condition, I understood that they were later recovered for restoration. But no idea where they went, I remember being struck at the ime how (relatively) well the canadian trucks had survived compaired to their US and UK contemparies, Great pics though, must dig mine out.. I also remember Morris bofors C9?? in very good condtion that had previousy been stored inside, seem to remember it was complete but for the gun...

Great pictures! I am surprised to see so much ww2 vehicles still to be found in scrapyards. Just like Hanno says, it is hard to find any here in Holland, at least in this part of the country. I do know of a GMC here near Haarlem, and there were two Stalwarts on another yard, but that's about it.

I remember seeing the Albion on the cover of a magazine and I really hope that someone will take the challenge of saving that one.

Alex

Malcolm & Radek,
As you so carefully put it, that truck is definately beyond it. The only thing holding it together is rust !. You could spend hours trying to recover bits from it only to come away with more rust. Radek, try and follow up Malcolm's suggestion, as it sounds like a better bet.

As a consolation, here are a couple more pictures of a Bedford QL and a C30 or possibly a C60, fitted with a Bedford engine

Remains of a 13 cab FGT & an early Ford floor plate, again 13 cab. Notice the dots on the floor plate, more commonly seen on 11 and 12 cab vehicles.
Hendrik, I understand there is an interesting little story attached to your visit 20 years ago ?.The GMC you mentioned has now been moved, but is still in the yard
Alex, The Albion was featured on the front cover of the MVT mag, Windscreen several issues ago. According to the owner of the yard, that Albion was driven directly from the surplus sales into that spot in 1958 and has never moved since !. It's sister was recovered and I belive restored

Keith,

I've been reading about the K3 above. It sounds like it is past it, but I was wondering if you think the cylinder head could be salvageable? Alternatively, does anybody know the location of a useable K3 head that I could purchase?

Thanks

Clive

"Mug shot" of a F15A in a Leeds scrap yard. Together with Bedford QLs and a Fordson WOT, it was recently recovered just days before the yard was cleared. See http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread...crap-yard-haul for more details and other trucks for sale.

And see https://www.flickr.com/photos/richbo...ith/3231798821 for this F15A plus Bedford QLs in their "scenic setting" before the yard was cleared.
