Can't identify this seat and MG Mount
I am having a hard time identifying the type of vehicle on which this seat would be used. It was recovered from a Belgian Museum where it was identified as a "British Machine Gun Seat" (no big help there!).
David Fletcher (Bovington Tank Museum) didn't recognize it as a piece of armor, but suggested that it reminded him of the rotating bucket seat attached to a Motley anti-aircraft machine-gun mounting. Can anyone identify this piece for me? ANy comments are greatly appreciated. John Adams-Graf Military Vehicles Magazine www.militaryvehiclesmagazine.com |

John.
I don't think it is military at all but a home made shooting seat for the back of an open backed truck, used to chase and kill game from the back of a vehicle.. Such as this one shown on this site... Scroll down to the Seeland shooting seat..The seat belt indicates mobile application, rather than static application. http://www.euroguns.co.uk/acatalog/Shooting_Sticks.html

Thank you!
Alex,
Well that is certainly a notion worth considering! You may quite well be correct as it doesn't seem to have any markings at all. The only thing it has going for it is that it apparently was in the Belgian military museum for decades before the museum closed its doors. I welcome any other comments, explanations or theories. All the best from "south of the border", John |

Motley MkV
It looks like a Motley Mounting MkV to me.
There are a few manauls or training pamphlets about this subject. Here is one of them. Cheers, Arjan

If you have any more on this setup, why not post it so everyone can benefit? There's quite a few forum members that would be interested.

Thank you again, everyone, for your very gracious and generous help! You helped me identify a seat that has been sitting around (oops..no pun meant!) for about five years.
I do have a load of respect for the folks on Maple Leaf Up...truly one of the friendliest and most helpful MV sites out there! Best Regards from Down South, John A-G |

article
I made an article about the Motley Mounting some time ago, for the clubmagazine of the Dutch MVPC "Keep Them Rolling". Only thing....it's in Dutch.
Motley article Cheers, Arjan
