For the benefit of those who might wonder:
First. The Bren and Scout Carrier.( Phillips Scout) (Now Bens) Pre Universal.
Second. British Universal ( Nigels AOP)
Third. British Universal
Fourth. Canadian Universal
Fifth. Aust pattern LP2, 2A and LP3 (Thankyou Colin for the use of your LP3photo)

The third image attributed to the British universal carrier is the same (update: not the same, 'similar' only) clutch and brake pedal as found on the early production MK-I* universal carrier. Locally some refer to it as the 'cheese grater' style.

Excellent thread Lynn, you forgot the LPP4 (Local pedal power) I don't think these ever went into production as they would have been quite slow and the drivers cuffs kept getting hooked in the chain. However I'm pretty sure this is where the terminology "on yer bike" came from.

Michael R, here I have an early set of british universal carrier pedals.
The clutch pedal has a pattern not seen very often now and is marked TL2733 and dated 1940. When you say early MkI* cheese grater, Do you mean Canadian, built for British contract? (where Britian supplied various special parts ie electrics etc) and maybe pedal assemblies?

The early MK-I* has a similar pattern, different part number.
Drawing design in FUC-03, and a Canadian contract example on an early MK-I* less than serial number 2083.

I got on my very late british carrier combination of pics 2 and 3. Clutch pedal is as on pic 2, brake as on pic 3.

Hi Petr, Does your clutch pedal have the top corner cut out of it as well?
My guess is the cutout was for working clearance in the AOPs.
Ross, I have not seen the "cheese grater" before.
The grip tread in picture two that I would call English carrier style was a commercially available material. I have found long strips of it on a post war Coles crane.

The ones I haven't mentioned are;
The Australian and New Zealand built LP2 and 2a all had the same style pedals a those in Colins LP3 (and LPP4

)

My New Zealand Railways (Hutt shops or Woburn built) carrier had flat pedal plates with no grip tread at all. Just plain. We'll see if that's a problem in the future.

my early mk1* has the british style pedals as well as other british parts, I assume this was due to Canadian production not being ready by the time the hulls were complete
it also has a british steering box, smiths instruments and british headlights. probably some other parts that I haven't figured out yet !

Hi Rick, your oil cooler bypass valve is one of those things. Brit carriers having a capillary gauge and the Canadian being electric.

I have another pic here. This is another shot of the early Canadian pedal (judging by Michael's previous post) Pre serial #2083. These things are rather savagely sharp.
Anyone know approximately what block of T numbers were allocated? Were they possibly in the 53,000 range?

In case it hasn't been mentioned here before, there is a document on the National Archives of Australia repository with a lot of the original jig drawings and some parts drawings for the LP2A. Here is the page showing the accelerator pedal assembly (the URL is pretty awful and takes a while to load - I hope this works):

A very interesting set of drawings for the LP2. Maybe you should post again Steve but start a new thread describing the drawings and titling the thread with a reference to the Australian pattern LP2 / LP2a. They will then be easier to find for the guys that might need them in the future.

I know it's not relevant to the discussion of wartime production pedal variants, but a good number of post war civilian carriers I've seen here in Canada had 4 by 4 wood blocks attached to the clutch so short guys could drive them.
