Default Dukw speedo drive?

Question for a fellow restorer who has a overdrive gearbox fitted to a 1941 long nose Desert Chev.

Where is the output for the speedo drive on a Dukw? Is it on the gearbox or is that a taco drive?

Thanks,
Wayne.

Im not familiar with them, but my guess is it comes off the back of the transfer case. The gearbox probably has a facility for one without a shaft in it, and it would be capped off. This facility would be used when the vehicle had a gearbox, without a two speed transfer case, which the DUKW has.
You wouldnt run a tacho from a gearbox.Cheers.

The speedo drive on the DUKW is on the output of the transfer case. The transfer case being two speed it could not be on the gearbox.
What is on the gearbox is the tacho drive. It is on the rear end of the lay shaft, not the output shaft so cannot be used to run a speedo.
