Can anyone give me some information on the inside of the flare box that mounts on the right front engine cover of a Mk.1 Canadian carrier? I'm particularly interested in how the insert with the 12 holes mounts on the inner side, or rather whether the same three holes that hold the box to the bracket also hold the insert. Pics would be great.

Thanks Kevin, but now I'm more confused. Jordan's pictures look like a wooden filler at the bottom, and another at the top, both with the 12 holes and separated by the three vertical bolts/threaded rods and nuts. What then are the three horizontal bolts for on the outside? I have a steel filler that would seem to want to use these external bolts to hold it in place. What I expected (but am not seeing) is a wooden filler at the bottom with bolts in the centre, then a metal plate held in by the 6 external bolts with the threaded ends of the central bolts passing through it.

From memory the sequence is: wood filler on bottom held in with 3 short bolts from bottom of box. top metal 12 hole bracket held in place with qty 6 of 3/16 bolts (3 in front and 3 in rear). Another wood filler is bolted on top of that bracket with 3 more short bolts. |

I concur with Rob's description except that the bolts over here are BA. The bolts may be different as my tins are from Aust. pattern carriers with bolt on lugs welded to the bottom of the tins.
I am following this thread with interest as I too would like to know how they are mounted to the engine cover of the riveted carriers. (having made the statement about BA fasteners, I havent actually checked that they are)

I have the insert for the flare box. I have done a line drawing of the insert on paper and don't forget the wooden insert in the bottom of the box to stablize the flares when inserted in the box.
My scanned is doa so I will post pictures to this thread. Roberta AKA universalgrl ![]() |
