radio spares tray/box.

Hi, I have just made the radio spares box/tray which go's on the rear right hand track guard on a Mk1 standard stowage carrier, I borrowed an original one to copy but both the two metal prongs which are riveted to the side were incomplete.

So what I need is a measurement please from an original, the measurement I need is the distance up on the vertical part of one of the prongs (from the bend to the curved top of the prong please).

please take the time to help if you can. I have included a couple of pics of the box, not sure who's carriers they are.

When i measure mine, with the rule standing on the horizontal part, it's 99mm to the top.

Thats great Lynn, many thanks, will cut and profile them at the weekend at work.

What are the prongs actually used for?, I think the prongs on the bigger bin behind the driver are for the bren cleaning kit, but dont know about these, they seem quite thin and fragile.

I was going to ask you the same question. I have no idea.
Do you realize they are spring steel?
Are they just to hold a head set?

Could they be for papers/maps codes or anything the radio operator needed to have handy?

Hi Kevin,
The middle picture is of my carrier when I was restoring it and started to mount the boxes in the hull.The brackets on the big box to the left is to store the bren spare parts wallet and the brackets for the spare valves box is for the Case,spare parts that hold the bulbs,fuses etc.I am sure if you search through photo's on this forum you will see all the kit placed in the proper places.There may even be photo's of my carrier with all the kit in place.

IIRC one set of the prongs holds the smaller Bren holdall, and the other set of prongs holds the "Case, spare parts no 5C".

Not on the Canadian Mk2.

Personally that is what I liked about the Cdn mk1, was it's stowage layout. There was a spot for just about everything, and so much of it was cool stuff like for the Bren, Boys, flare pistol....just filling all the spots on a mk1 is almost a hobby in itself.

The Mk2 seemed to move more towards bulk storage. Certainly more practical, but not as much fun.
