While dismantling an Austin lorry engine for a rebuild today, I spotted something significant. The casting date shows it as 6th June 1944, by the Austin Foundry. This proves one thing for sure, that this engine did not power a vehicle up the beach on D-Day

Richard,
What a piece of history you have there! Well spotted too, by the way. ![]() Just imagine what the production line workers would have been listening to on the radio (sorry...Wireless) while that was going together. Pity you're not closer to me, I have digital recordings of news broadcasts of WWII, including the first full 48hrs of D Day reports. Interesting listening while working on a period military vehicle. Certainly puts one 'in the mood'. ![]()
