Red Tank...
Heavy armour, spotted this afternoon headed southbound on Hwy #11 north of North Bay ON.
What was really unusual about this piece was that it was RED. No kidding. As I was approaching the oncoming heavy haul float I was astonished when I realized that it was armour on the deck. I had a second take as he flew by, I did not even slow because I though for sure at first it was heavy equipment. I could swear it was a Sheridan, as it had the short cannon. Does anyone have any ideas on this one, possible a former range target or BATUS veh????

The range safety fleet at BATUS has over the years had many "bright" colours.
We have a CVR(T) Spartan that was all over yellow. There were some all ove red FV432s and some Warrior IFV as well so that is what I'm assuming you saw. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rN6O2O_yw0 at 37 seconds is a Warrior http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aERYm...eature=related at minute 3:15 is a Land Rover likely of the same colour you saw. If your looking for a similar speed try this one and tell me what you saw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS68P...eature=related and some more footage for your delectation here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcaXy...eature=related Robin |

HI Robin, the land rover at 3:15 is painted the exact colour of red that the armour was wearing. I can safely assume is was a BATUS vehicle that I saw, now the question, where was it going? If it was from Suffield, just curious as to the truck freight shipping vs rail, as it was a lone piece on a civilian carrier and not preceded, nor followed, by others of its ilk...

there are likely only 4 to 6 call signs at Range Safety, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 here is what you saw I think R |
