I was out at a new (to me) scrapyard the other day and saw a deuce that I have not seen before. Here is a Duece Line truck. It would have had a hydraulic hole auger on a jib at the back, but the fellow who has it moved that onto a tractor or something. It is now leaning on some other piece of equipment.
I believe I saw a date of 1959 on the body. At first I thought it was a DUKW with a deuce cab transplanted onto it. I have more photos from the scrapyard if anyone is interested, including a Diamond T M52 tractor with Cdn forces decals still on the doors. Looks like it had a new engine which didn't work out, so the forces scrapped it. |

There is a fully restored one in the Sigs museum in Kingston. It was done by the Western Linemans Assn. Post more pics if you could. Where was the scrap yard. I wouldn't mind seeing it in person.

There is a good photo album posted on the internet on the truck at Kingston. Before I saw this truck, I only saw a line drawing in the DND manual of census codes for vehicles.
I used to work on the old deuces, and saw the basic ones, from dumps, to cargo, to flat cargo box, single tire, dual tires, hyab etc. The line trucks must not have been common, as this is the first one I have seen in this area. The scrapyard is within 20 miles of Shilo. |

I am going to be travelling from Moose Jaw to Winnipeg next Thursday. Is it hard to get too?

Kind of an old thread but while looking for something else downstairs I found this data summary for the line trucks. I'll post it here for posterity.

Am I right in reading the dates for the chassis mfg as 54-55 and for the body as 57 and 62? Suggesting the trucks were built in two batches on either stockpiled chassis or chassis that had originally been used for something else?

Yes, that is correct. Note that there are two contracts, one for 17 of them, and another contract for 1. Perhaps that is where the two years of production come in. Also interesting to note that the one local to me is a M133 or M135 chassis, where this data summary only mentions the dual wheeled M207. I will venture to guess that the one local to me is included in these production numbers.
M207 were just a cab and chassis, to be used for specialized bodies, or perhaps used to replace damaged cab/chassis for some of the other dual wheeled trucks. The M133 was the same cab and chassis deal as backup for the M135 or specialized vehicles. The museum here has a deuce with whinch that for all appearances is an M135, but the data plate says M133. Still looking for someone crazy enough to try and save this one. |

Is this line truck identified as: ECC 124107, or, probably more properly as ECC 124102 once the Cable Layer Adaptor Kit was installed, and then became NSN 3895-21-109-3752 as per EIS7009? That is what I'm seeing in the same census publication.

Nope, it's ECC 124902. Instruction date is 9 Feb 71...not sure what date your ECC book is. I have copies of one of the census code books....if I run across it I'll see what it says.

Here's a nice 'deuce and a half' photo I picked up a couple of years ago.
