T16 carrier

Hi I'm trying to find out as much as I can about the carriers as I'm hoping to buy one, is there a lot of difference, or any of the t16 to the universal?

The controlled differential of the T-16 is probably the biggest difference between it and the universals. The differentials were well built, and post war were (and still are) used on various snowmachines like the Bombardiers, nodwells, flextracs and go-tracts. .

UC vs. T16: General items (there are exceptions, etc)

"standard" carriers are shorter, with six road wheels, t16s longer, with eight road wheels.

UCs are steered by a steering wheel, T16 by tillers.

UCs generally used and built by commonwealth, T16 by the USA

Otherwise, (again in general terms) the different carriers resembled each other, had similar power packs, and performed the same roles.

Probably your first purchase should be Nigel Watsons 3 books, after that there are various bits floating about, and obviously this forum...

If memory serves me correctly the T16's had more powerful engines, were bigger, and the E2's stayed on the ground better...

hi bill
to give you some idea as to what you get for your money i bought this t16 last year from a dealer for £2.5k which sounds cheap but it's a real dog and has a lot of parts missing, i would say the carrier you are thinking of buying represents a sound investment of your hard earned.
you could always wait and see if anyone brings those carriers out of argentina but that might be a bit of a long shot.

a bird in the hand is worth two in the pub !

pending on your budget it pays to be patient.... took me a year to find mine, and another year of planning to get it home.

my t16 is still sitting in the dealers back field waiting for it's turn but before that comes round, i have the cromwell and my mk1* to finish, not to mention the ongoing churchill parts scrounging exercise. so it might be a while
