The AEC Armoured Command 4x4 was called the "Dorchester".
Is there a similar nick-name for the 6x6 version. How widely were they deployed? Were they only used by the Canadian Army? Cheers Tim |

Anyone... getting on for 12 months and no responses...
So... perhaps a photo from my collection will help? NB - This is a Canadian Army vehicle - photo taken in 1945 What's this? Armoured Command 6x6? If the 4x4 is the Dorchester... is this Buck House? Tim |

I think the last time I saw one of these AEC's was in Pound's Yard when they had nearly cleared it out.

I know that Canada shipped home 2 4x4 and 2 6x6 command post vehicles and these were stored in Hagersville Ont, and as of 1950 were still wearing their wartime paint and markings, sometime after 1950 the 2 6x6's ended up in CFB Kingston and were used as non moving classrooms , no trace of them now,

At least 2 4x4's in Australia. One at the Puckapunyal Armoured museum and one in WA. ex- late Bob Dimer. I also saw one in the UK at the Royal Signals museum in the Blandford Camp. Blandford Forum.
Regards Rick.

It was fire damaged whilst at Pounds and one of the axles was damaged when the army recoverd it from Portsmouth for display at Bovington on loan.
Whatever the deal was it just sat in the yard at Bovington and subsequently went to its new owners. |

Back in 1985 I visited the yard and crawled in it. I was amazed by how complete it still was - a true time capsule. Here's hoping someone will one day pick up the gauntlet and restore or at least properly preserve it. H.
