Tools XTL - 3620 & XTL - 4056
A number of years ago, I obtained an original copy of the Course Notes (some 75 pages) for the Universal Carrier Training Program that Ford of Canada conducted at their Windsor, Ontario plant. This course trained the military instructors. I have attached copies of the opening two pages for your reference.
It was an extensive course over several weeks. They started with a tour of the production facilities which covered Hull Manufacture, Foundry, Heat Treating, Engine Manufacture and Assembly, Steering, Rear Axle and Bogie Parts. The bulk of the course was then spent completely disassembling a Universal Carrier. They then had to put it all back together and test it to make certain it ran properly.
The little gem in these course notes was discovered half way through, and I have included it as the third image. This is a Machinists drawing for the fabrication of the two tools required for the Steering and Brake adjustments on the Canadian Universal Carrier.
If you are in need of these tools and you have a Technical College nearby that offers a Machinists Course, I would suggest you take a copy of this drawing to the school and see if they will make a set of tools for you. They are always on the lookout for meaningful projects for their students. I had three sets made years ago for local Manitoba UC Nuts, all for the cost of a bottle of single malt scotch and the time it took to drive over to the school in question.
Hope this helps,
David
