What are these for?
Hi,
Can someone help identify these brackets? There is one either side at the back of my LAAT body on the inside. It is a bolt about 3 inches long, through the back plate and welded on. It then has a large wingnut spun on. They are on both my bodies, although I have seen some pictures of LAAT's without them. Thanks James

No idea what they are for, but I have seen the same wingnuts on a LAAT here in Holland as well. Alex

Hi David,
You're probably right! My first LAAT body came from a bus company and had been converted to a recovery vehicle. I thought these had been added by the bus company. Then the second body arrived with the same bolts, too much of a coincidence. What doesn't make sense is that the bolt and wing nut would cause the gunner sitting at the back a serious injury if they braked suddenly. James

Steps?
Looking at Gregg's profile #10 I would hazard that they are extensions for the wheel scotch holders that uses them as a step. The reference is vague but makes sense that some sort of extension could be stored there that adds an additional rung to the holders on each side just underneath. in the pictures you see the scotch holders, not the scotches and as there is no tailgate there is no other step unless you add one low enough. without one they appear to be to high to put your foot in to get up in the back. My thought

I also have these threaded studs on my C30 LAAT, but have no idea what they are for !. Maybe Rob in Canada knows. In the mean time, I'll keep looking for the answer. Regards Keith

Thanks for replying. It's amazing there are no pictures showing their use. I wondered if they were for wood blocks or wedges? Not a comfortable ride for the gunner seated next to them, James

Hi James,
I just had a thought, so went out and checked mine. I wondered if they where used to secure the jacking base plates for the Bofors gun. Then I found a picture of a LAAT towing a Bofors gun, and the jacking base plates appear to stay on the jacks on the gun. Back to the drawing board ! Keith
