Hi All,
We have just bought a little Morris Commercial CS8 to restore. It's in rough shape, but very restorable. What are the main clues for telling the year of manufacture of a CS8? Where's the best place to obtain parts like engine gaskets, wheel cylinder kits, brake master cylinder kits etc? Cheers, Alex

hi
Alex hey, that looks like a good project- I wonder who did that to it, looks like a gypsy wagon . You should see the CS8 wrecks I have here . Parts are very difficult to find The brake wheel cylinders, get them sleeved . New brake hoses are available from the chap in Argentina on ebay , very cheap . http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_f...+hose&_sacat=0 Is the chassis Ok, they are prone to rusting as I have one that makes a good swiss cheese look alike . Gaskets for the engine , you only need the head gasket, make the others . Cox and Turner in the Uk have new CS8 engine valves , they have lots of series 1 Land Rover engine parts as well . Rory has piston sets . Dodge 3 1/4" rings will fit the Morris pistons and are easy to find . The chassis number is stamped on the rear LH spring hanger , the numbers ended at around 21, 000 in late 1941 or early 1942 when production ended. Have you seen my old geocities web site on the CS8 ? The MCC club saved bits of it http://www.morriscommercialclub.co.uk/military_mc.html Mike

Cheers Mike.
The chassis looks pretty good from what we can see, won't know for certain until we rip the body off. I'm unsure who did the bodywork, but it was used by the catchment commission in the Lower North Island of NZ. Do you know if a gearbox from a later model MCC will fit a CS8 (for example an LC3 gearbox?)

The LC3 gearbox is not compatible , nothing from it will fit the CS8 . I have bits & pieces from four CS8's , if you need anything , let me know . Being over engineered, the rear axles tend to last forever . You will find the brake system interesting eg copper brake pipes with single flared ends You will need two replacement LEYRUB rubber joints for the prop shaft to the rear axle . Commer trucks of the 1950's used the same joint , a chap over here has got new ones, but he wants an arm and a leg for them Mike

The axles were often used in TQ midgets (I think)
Anyhow Alex, you have a carrier to finish before you start into this. ![]()

Mike,
I'm looking at buying some brake hoses and a master cylinder kit off ebay for our CS8. What size master cylinder do the late CS8s have? 1.25" or 1.5"? Cheers, Alex

The Master cyl. is located on the outside of the chassis rail, drivers side . I have not pulled one apart as yet , but it looks like 1 .25 " to me . I did get a kit sent over from the UK with new rubber seals . I will see if I can find the kit and get back Took this pic outside in the cold ..a CS8 lives here on the lawn PS found the kit ..it is 1 1/4"
