Default SAAF vehicles in Italy

Hello all,

I found a number of interesting vehicle photos, which you may already know of here:

http://saafww2photographs.yolasite.c...45-album-1.php
http://saafww2photographs.yolasite.c...45-album-2.php
http://saafww2photographs.yolasite.c...45-album-3.php

Among the many aircraft photos there are a number of SAAF vehicles, some of which carry a fascinating array of markings. In the attached photos there is a Jeep which has some text forward of the air recognition roundel on the bonnet. Does anybody have any idea what it might say? Its angle makes it practically impossible to read. The first line could be the vehicle's serial number. Any idea what the second line could be?

All vehicles carry a winged "7" for "SAAF 7 WING". The Jeep has a Springbok below the windscreen in front of the driver.

Thanks on advance for any ideas.

Fyll,

I don't know what it reads, but I do know that "TYPE 1900" was the RAF designation for 5-cwt 4x4 cars. It was to be applied as "RAF TYPE 1900" on the nearside door in 3 inch, but the jeep not having doors the most convenient was to paint only "TYPE 1900" on either the scuttle or on the bonnet - see attached pic.

Hi Hanno,

Thanks for the correction and sorry for the non-functioning links.
Thanks also for the input on the TYPE 1900 inscription.
My main question is about the Jeep's bonnet markings, i.e. the script near the bonnet;s front edge over the radiator. I've never seen anything written in that position before.
