I have an interest in WW2 GMC-CCKW's and I have photos of a radio/command body but no information on what the interior of this type of body looked like.
Does anyone have a photo or drawing of what it would have looked like please? |

No pics of the inside , the van body was known as a K53 type. Regards Jim

Cliff:
Those vans were used as shop vans, commo shacks, command vehicles, admin vans, etc, as you know. The basic layout would vary by use -- for example a machine shop van would be different than a small-arms repair van ... and so on. Also most units would then chnage it to suit their purposes -- especially the office, admin, command vans. In short, once you have an idea of tables, shelves, etc, you can pretty much do as you wish (IMHO). Anyway, you might try Portrayal Press - www.portrayal.com. They don't list much on their site so getting a catalog is helpful. I found ORD 9 G-227 "Bodies, Shop Trucks, ST-5 & ST-6 List of all parts & equipment" 128pg. You might use the site to send email to Dennis Spence, the owner, and ask specific question. They have a lot of un-listed manuals & will do a special run, but they do cost some big bucks. Of course, this is all, "US" info .... John |

Thanks for the reply John. How ever this particular body was NOT used as a mobile workshop but only as a radio command type.
I have pics of all the other layouts including some of the medical ones but not this particular type. Thanks for your reply though. Cheers Cliff PS> Portrayal has nothing on this as I have already tryed. ![]() |

Cliff:
That's what I get for shooting from the hip ... It was post-war that we managed to get down to one basic van body (well, two if you count the expandable) fo rthe 2-1/2 series. I went back & looked & see where I failed to pay attention to window layout, a dead giveaway .... ![]() Having said that, I can't find anything in my stuff other than exterior views. Do you have a side/rear view that appears to show the frame rails sticking out the back a foot or so ?? John |

no John I don't. I do have the TM 9-2800, 1943 that gives me a drawing of the back and also of the other side, which has a single door near the front.
I also only have one or two pics that show side and front but never the back. Thanks for your interest in this one. Cheers Cliff ![]() |

Cliff, my "view" is the same TM you have, but I have recently seen a real picture of the back end -- I think it was on Missing-Lynx or Armorama but I can't remember exactly where.
I'll keep looking & let you if/when I find it. John |
