The jeep was a huge hit during WW2 , so much so that post-war, jeep interest was very high, there was even a line of clothing called jeep. Lines Brothers (UK) got into the act with these pedal cars. The advert is dated 1947. Are there any surviving ?
Who is going to admit they had one of these as a kid.

Hi Mike
Yes we had Jeeps like this in my family in the late 40s early 50s. First version built by my father was made out of wood and was so heavy neither my brother or I could peddle it. Will look for photos. One of the cousins did have one of the sheet metal versions, which like many of the peddle cars of the time only practical on flat paved surface. Cheers Phil

This is a photo of a kiddie Jeep that I spotted at an antiques show a couple of decades ago. I particularly liked the markings.

Thistle built Triang pedal cars in Canada. When I was a child I was handed down a well worn Thistle station wagon. If I happen across one I would probably buy it.
Here’s a link to some historical information. https://www.triang.nl/thistlecanada.htm |

Speaking of Jeep crazy, it goes to the ubiquity of images. Sorry to today's CMP builders, but what returned serviceman dad would be excited to tell their kids, 'Well you know son, I drove a fifteen hundred-weight in the war. Somedays, I even tilted the windscreen up.'

What a neglected childhood you had, forced to play outside on an obviously unsafe metal toy and not a safety helmet in sight! Just terrible.... hehehehe

As well I must note that the Jeep is coloured blue, and the boys are wearing gender specific clothing. The options are not being promoted. |
