Whats the cost of a Carrier ....
Anyone have an idea of the cost for an unrestored Bren Gun Carrier here in Canada? With or without Armour? Any around Ontario for sale?

Dean,
One of my good friends and members of the MV group passed away recently and his estate will be auctioned off in the next few months. I hear around September sometime. The reason I'm letting you know, is that John was a collector of quite a bit of militaria and mvs, most of which are in poor shape. In the collection is a nice MK 1 UC that needs restoring. It is for the most part complete, uncut and needs a new home. The is a second carrier that is cut down and bastardized which would lend itself well for a nice set of tracks and boggies. If I were you I'd come up and see what it goes for, you never know. The last auction I bid on a carrier and quit at $1800, it was obvious that the buyer had a deep pocket. I have heard of carriers going anywhere from scrap value of a couple hundred dollars up to $6000 for an unrestored one.

If you aren't careful, it'll usually cost you a failed marriage, some of your credit rating, and all of your spare time. I bought one off ebay last year that was located in Ontario; paid the usual e-bay premium price for mid grade quality. I paid around $8000 US. The nice thing about this one is the majority of the stowage boxes and misc brackets are there, these can really be a challenge to find. I finally got the hull stripped to it's most basic component, replaced all the rivets which had been cut and replaced with bolts, and started the sandblasting yesterday. Of course, it has now started raining, and will continue to do so for the next couple of days. |

Just noticed the tarp in the photo you have shown is identical to the one I got with my carrier. Could this be the origional issue Bren carrier tarp (cover canvas,CO1UC 100719)? |

Interesting MkI*
Chris its interesting to see that the MkI* under the cover is fitted with the Middle East configuration of extra cans on the rear.

Nigel, it is interesting indeed, and sandshields as well. Wonder if this was a bring back, who knows?
This carrier was rescued by a farmer some years ago who did nothing with it other than sit it in his farmyard to collect all kinds of debris over the years. It is remarkably complete. You may note that the rear sproket was replaced with a pulley - this carrier was used post war at a ski lodge for powering the ski lift. This is probably what saved it as it was built into a shed. When they decided to modernize their equipment, the farmer heard about it and rescued it.

the short answer is what ever you are willing to pay for one..
but it dosent end there, it goes like this C + T + TR + DL + MP= THE TOTAL COST C - CARRIER LETS SAY - $5,000 T - TRUCK, CHEVY 3500 - $40,000 TR - TRAILER --------------- $6,000 MP - MISSING PARTS ------- $5,000 DL - DIVORCE LAWYER ------ $200,000 over your life time so the normal carrier should run in the area of around $256,000.00 but if you do what i did and get 3 then the price drops down to just under $100,000 ea but thats not counting the bren gun, boys ATG, and PIAT that you have to have to kit it out properly. LOL good luck and have fun. dave

Hmmm
Well I'm not married so I save $200,000 My partner just bought a truck...Since he and his Father own a company that builds Construction equipment I don't think a trailer is a problem..plus we have use of their full workshop...hell I'm saving money already!!LOL

I paid 11,000 USD for Jim Burrills 42 Mk1 restored,
engine, trans, was rebuilt (only has 71 miles on it ) Has all the radios WS19 set and most of the boxes are orginal or have been copied from the rusted orginals Has war dated shovel and axe on the rear. Has the "flimsy" Gas and oil can on rear both war dated 1942 I know it took Jim 6 years to get it this far. I repainted it CC#2 from a NOS part Jim had, I had a auto paint place match the part 100% so my carrier is the correct shade of CC#2 Next I am going to paint the red/white/red early allied reconition symbol, And finding carrier stuff down here in the states is alot harder. Sometime I will have to take a trip up to the great white north. Never been to Canada |
