Default Nice work......

How did you do it Phil.....???

Just a cut with the 4 1/2 grinder???? any problem with relocating the stud ball for the fork????

GM did make some recent modern right hand side clutch beel housing for vans in the 70s I beleive....clutch was on right side and operated with slave cylinder from clutch master system... would be of interest if one wanted to instal a 350 V8..... not sure if they had one for the six in line at that time....

Good work......

Default Drill and cutting disk

First, made a template locating all the critical holes to check for match, then marked and drilled the corners of the clutch fork hole. Your right then used the high speed cutting wheel to slice through the casting. Drilled and tapped for the clutch pivot ball stud. Everything seems to line up well, just to keep the squirrels out made a cover for the now unused left side slot.

Test fitted the engine transmission into the truck as I’m changing over to a later 216 engine. Strangely this engine has no serial number stamped on the distributor boss.

Default What happened...???

Sounds simple enough..... was the bellhousing dimpled or marked in anyway for the ballstud of the fork???

What happened to your plans to install a 261???? I assume that this is for your cab 12??? What carb are you planning to use???

Just got my new NOS 261 carb from ABLinn off EBay.... brand new... very pleased.... has larger bore for either the 270 or 292 and fits perfect on the bolt pattern of the 261 manifold..... would be too big for a regular 235. ABLinn is still listing them for $33 US $ on EBay.

Cheers

Bob

Default Still don't have the 261

The 261 still has not been delivered everytime check on the guys says next week. We've agreed on price and everything he just keeps forgetting to get haul it in and put it on the rollback to deliver. This week reason was the ground is to muddy to haul it out.

Im still looking for another.

No the housing was not marked on inside or out for the alternate fork ball-stud. Drilled the hole on the drill press so that it is square to the monting face then made up a tappered washer so that the strain would be applied even to the housing.

Bob Carriere is correct about G.M. making bellhousings with a right hand side clutch fork. They were used on Chevy and Canadian GMC trucks from 1960 to 1962 and used a hydraulic clutch. They were used on 6 cyl. and V-8 engines but using them in a CMP would mean changing the cross member to use the later style rear engine mounts that were used I think from 1953 to 1972.

Yes I would be interested in a correct bellhousing, I hope to get up that way in the coming year. So if you find it put someplace you can find it and we'll work out picking it up.

I'm setting up an engine test stand for setting up and running engines before I put them in the trucks. So I needed an extra bellhousing for the test stand.
