This thread is in response to Manitoba's foremost 45 HUP expert, who is looking to replace or rebuild some of his HUP's components. The part de jour is the venerable HUP bumper mount - an interesting combination of a cast piece and stock steel.
Mark, the dimensions taken tonight (after a few Rickards and Keiths) were of the face plate that is welded onto the long part of the mount. Picture if you will (Bob Carriere will post photos shortly) a 3/8 th thick, 4 inch x 2.5 inch rectangular piece of steel - with the corner edges slightly rounded off. It has four 15/32 holes - one drilled near each corner. The holes on the narrow side are 1 and 9/16 inches apart centre to centre. The holes on the long side are 3.0 inches apart centre to centre. The plate actually is welded to the cast piece with the long side in the vertical position. One side of the plate is welded even with the "spine" of the mount I'm sure that the photos will be of more assistance. Despite the lack of technical training and the overindulgence in beer, I think the dimensions are correct.

Picture one....
check out the soft plush CMP blanket.... pink no less!!!! ..for some reason I had to really shrink the sucker down to 65kb to allow postings....usually get by with 90 + or - ...let's do it again.... Look at them curves...... curve is meant to match the curve on the inside of the frame horn..... ...focus is off but look at the heavy welding blob from previous repairs....

Hopefully these shots and the data provided will suffice, Mark. If not, give us a shout. In fact, if you need shots of any other unique 45 HUP parts, let me know as soon as possible - my HUP is in about 1000 pieces strewn between home, Bob Carriere's barn and the S&P Museum. But, they will slowy begin to be gathered up and returned to their rightful location on the old girl. Maybe this year I can keep my car in the garage...

Super stuff guys - I just got undistracted from other things (such as a 6x6x10-foot cedar timber sitting in the back of my car that I managed to crack the windshield with while I was sliding it forward) to get caught up with this thread.
It is interesting to see the front plates are welded on, not part of the casting - this is exactly how I will have to repair mine - torched off at the backside of the front plate as they were.

I am afraid casting is beyond my skill level...... such a structural peice would have to be done very carfully.... or the bumper might fall off.... personaly I would prefer making one from welded flat pieces and welding than a casting..... beside you would need one for each side as they are curved and angled differently.
Ther are a few small shops that does casting around Ottawa but most is for ornemental use..... where strenght is not an issue.... but usually do a lot of pot metal and cast iron...like filials for wrought iron fencing.....casting high quality steel parts????? Bob C.
