Hello everyone,
I just saw on the Chapters-Indigo web site that Terry Copp has a new book out called "Fields of Fire:The Canadians in Normandy". Dose anyone have any info about the book? http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/item.a...BC63AE9E065101 Thanks in advance. John Last edited by John McGillivray; 14-06-03 at 15:59. |

I just picked this one up on the weekend and it really is good! He also writes about and references a man I know personally, and who was there. My little link to history.
![]() He demonstrates that the previous accounts exaggerated the prowess of the German army and that while Allied air power and numerical strength were important, the Canadians and other Allied citizen armies won the war on the battlefield by employing an effective doctrine. The Canadian contribution to the Battle of Normandy, Copp argues, was an extraordinary achievement, well out of proportion to the number of troops engaged in battle and the army was far more successful than historians claimed. Two thumbs up!!

Just finished reading Fields of Fire Monday and suggest that it be added to anyone library with an interest in Canada's Normandy battles. Professor Copp has created a very detailed chronicle of what went right and wrong in operations of 2nd Canadian Corps. The men on the sharp end did us proud there is no doubt.
