As experience is showing that the streets of Kandahar are too narrow, for 8x8 20 tonne armoured vehicles, and as resources must also be fouid for heavy-lift aircraft, the Canadian Forces are considering an alternative choice for a fire support vehicle.
This new design, to be called the Shrew (a ferocious little beast that punches far above its weight) can go anywhere to deliver its 75mm rounds. Needless to say it is very fuel efficient, and its crew of one allows considerable personnel savings. |

.... and they are air-portable and man-packable to boot...... Bonus! ![]() Now I suppose the fight begins to see who operates these, Herbies because it's considered a Mobile Gun system or Zipperheads claiming the same ..... or Grunts, claiming they're an anti-armour resource ......... at least now I know where the 75mm RR the Museum had went......

Obviously like the 106 Recoiless rifle...and I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it when it fires..with sh*t coming out of both ends... Looks good though...got the picture of the ammo trailer it tows??? When you fire it ,the kick stand must be a two legged gizzmo ..one legged one wouldn't be strong enough.

Details, details!
The write up in Janaury 1956 Canadian Army Journal says it a French design, with a top speed of 40 MPH, and that to fire the 75mm RR, the gunner must dismount from the scooter and emplace the gun (and presumably try to reinstall it before roaring away, once the fire mssion was completed), This rather negates the principle of "shoot and scoot". Nothing is said about ammunition supply, maybe it could carry a couple of rounds in the panniers. I would suspect the prospects of it suriviving long enough to require more ammunition than that were limited. Roger |
