Default The Chatsworth Gathering-Poem

The Chatsworth Gathering

Now hear my story of an event we may fear,
It happens in Chatsworth this time of year,
Here the boys gather from far , wide and near,
To talk about old army trucks while having some beer.

Some may not know them but they're a great bunch of guys
These lads will regale you with each others' lies,
But then there's the bard from Maces Bay,
Where only he, thinks that he sings OK.

The topic will be the old CMP,
But carriers will be there for all to see,
And the main man that day will be Stewart Loy,
Driving the boys in his rebuilt toy.

We must not forget ol' Geoff Winnington-Ball,
Our leader----so lean and tall,
After a few beers into his chair he may fall,
The sleep of a leader, empty beer bottle and all.

Then there's Hanno who'd be there if he cam,
Who's in the course of creating his own clan,
When he needs people to clean the C-15,
He'll have three plus people all in their teens.

Have fear all you lassies there, beware of the flirts,
Especially Churcher selling T_Shirts,
Caldwell will be there advising alerts,
But nay me lassies, no handsome men in skirts.

After the BBQ's over and they're smiling with pride,
Onto the green things they'll want a ride,
So a parade into Chatsworth will be formed,
Some in shorts,jeans,and old uniforms.

Hear me my friends of those not there,
Karmen and frying pan may GIVE you the stare,
There's Keefy and Hayward way down in OZ land,
And don't forget Webb and Murray who'll not be on hand.

I wish I could be there as your highland drummer,
To wake them up from their late night slumber,
To be chased out of town would be one of my dramas,
Thirty-six men,all in pink pajamas.

So,from those of us unfortunate not to attend,
We wish all of you a happy weekend,
To be there with you ,will be long gone and over,
May you all get over the dreaded HAnGOVER.

Garry, that was brilliance such we've seen rarely. I commend you, sir!

My eyes are still blown, so I'm not going to make it, but I've sent my best with several members.

Thanks again, Garry. Some day ALL of us have to get together. You have a good night, sir.

What was it supposed to be again? My brain is fried, partially because of creeping old age and partially because my eyes are basically pooched. Let's just say I've been distracted. I've also had to reload everything in my PC, so if I already have it, I don't know where it is. Tell me what it's supposed to be and I'll do it today.

Wow ... reload ... what a huge job!!!

GARRY ... would you like to borrow one of my to motivate :dh: your lovely daughter?

Ma Yappy.

Hi Garry...
You are a bard of great distinction......

I'm just recovering from the marvelous event ,CC5 put on by the Caldwell brothers at Chatsworth this weekend..
A full report ,with pictures will be featured in the next Convoy magazine,if our editor sees fit to print it...
I won't steal Mike's thunder (Mike McKinley,The Bard of Maces Bay,is doing the feature story)
But I will say that Mike gave a wonderful speech at supper(A whole bbq'ed pig....yum....) tieing together the wonderful trucks(CMP's and a toast to the men that drove them, our veterans,...)Mike read off a poem, toasting our vets..and has many requests for that poem...
But the Poem "Lest We Forget" will be printed for the first time (Except for my printer) anywhere in the feature story in Convoy magazine..
This poem is not a Convoy magazine copyright but an Alex Blair copyright ,because I wrote it...
I had the best time ever at this weekend event and look forward to CC6 which Jeff assures me ,is being planned..
Once again ,hats off to Jeff and Dan and the whole Caldwell family for sponsering such a marvelous event.
