By cut off cable are you referring to the fuel shutoff? If so, is it electric or mechanical? If electric, make sure your battery(ies) are well charged. I've seen cases where the electric fuel solenoid will open when the ignition is initially turned on, but get pulled to the off position by the return spring when the D.C. voltage dropped due to draw when cranking high compression diesels over. I had to jury rig a string to hold the fuel solenoid open when starting up a V12 750 HP Cat prime mover during power outages in the Golan.
By primed do you mean you've cracked the injectors open and bled any air out of them? If not, you'll probably need to do that before you'll get the engine to start esppecially if its been sitting for a spell. It's easy to do with a buddy...a little more work when doing by yourself.
If the engine has been sitting for a long period of time, turn it over initially with the fuel shut off to get oil throughout.
Hope this helps.

Oh yeah...Perkins diesels are real common in Canada where they're used a lot in marine applications. A high school buddy of mine has a Westerbeke diesel (Westerbeke: Perkins blocks with Westerbeke heads) franchise in Vancouver. If you get stuck, I can contact him for any help/info.

Default P6

Dave
If it is a pull cable to stop , then the cable is attached to a lever on the side of the injector pump item 41 on the attached pic.
If the engine has not been run for awhile it is adviseable to remove the plate off the side of the pump and make sure the rack moves back and forth easily item 17 . Move the stop lever back and forth and rack should respond .
These pumps rest in a full fuel position and if stuck will start up and run at full fuel , full revs and may destroy the engine .
