Hello chaps
I have installed eloctronic ignition on my C15 it starts and runs fine until picking up speed under load then it feels as though the spark is dissapearing soon as you take your foot off its ok at low speeds in all gears I did see something about these high output coils being to much for the plug leads but cannot find the artical on the forum or remember who sent it in can any one remember it i seem to remember it saying it could afect the cut out relay under the instrament panel any thoughts on this problem. regards to all out there regards to all vic eaton uk.

Have you changed over to 12 volts or are you using a high output 6 volt coil. Is the power drop out only under load at higher rpm?
Do you think that you are getting arcing on the leads or in the distributor cap? Did the instructions for the coil mention anything about changing the gap setting on the points?

HELLO PHIL
Yes its a 6volt coil supplied with the electronic ignition kit it was an optional extra and yes the power drop is as you increase throttal to pick up speed Thanks vic uk.

Reason I asked about the points was that Mallory had high output dual point system for old hot rods so did know if you were dealing with new or old hot rod technology. If you think that the leads are the culprit try misting the leads with water, sprits bottle, to see if you start getting arching at low speed you should be able to hear it or even see it. Then increase the RPMs and see if the ignition breaks down sooner or worse. This would be indicative of course of arcing I have had a problem with old ignition leads just plain being very leaky even as NOS right out of the box. I’ve been using new solid wire vs. resistor ignition leads.
Of course you can use the alternative method of checking the ignition leads. Get some suspecting persons to run their hand over the wires as you listen for the problem.

Hook it up to your old coil and see what happens. If it runs the same you know that's not the problem. I put one of those electronic point replacers on an old IHC 3 ton truck and wouldn't be without it now. The high output coil isn't totally necessary. To check for spark jumping just run it at night away from any other lighting and any sparks really show up.

HELLO CLETRAC
Thanks for your input its 6 30 am here and after a night thinking about this problem i was thinking the same so tonight round and round the school playground i shall be going in the dark looking for sparks then back to the old coil then as my son suggested a wire straight from batt to coil . Many thanks vic uk.

Just a prompt. Dont eliminate the possibility that it's a fuel problem, (unless you can, already) because it's an easy mistake to make.

HELLO LYNN
Thanks for that but i think i have just solved the problem i ran a wire from the batt direct to the coil as my son said bypassing that little voltage cut out in the instrament panel and it went like a rocket well perhaps not that fast .so i think the high voltage coil does affect that and someone did say something about it on this forum if i can only find it .i would like to thank you boys for all the help i will sleep well tonight. Thanks again to all vic uk Many heads are better that one i say.
