Default Somolian Inter???

Well, an hours gap before the next wave of Christmas visitors.

Following the story of Ethiopia bombing inside Somalia, I happened on these two photos of Somalian "Technicals".
Sorry for the quality/size but I grabbed them off of news paper articles on the net.

They both look to me to be IH M5H6 models with a tipper body (shorter sides) and one seems to have two of the wheels/tyres removed on the back axles.

If I am correct, the only way I can think they got there was maybe ex Italian Navy or Marines in Ethiopa after WWII who received them on one of the MAP programs.

Any ideas out there??

And, Merry Christmas to all.
Bill

hello bill, and merry christmas!!

i think the truck in the pic is one of the m35 series of postwar 2-1/2 tonners. if you look at the front of the fender you can see that it is angled down, but the rear of the same fender has been bent way out of shape, giving it a rounded look, much like an international. the other thing is if you look closely at the top left of the drivers door you can see a triangular shape, which is a staple of the m35. having said all of this, the hood is either propped up, bent, or wrong for the truck. i say this because there is an access panel which normally sits between the top of the fender, and the side of the hood, which is removable, and the side of the hood is supposed to sit parallel with the top of the fender, not at an angle to it. attached is a pic of an m-35, which was originally produced by reo motors around 1951, but over the following decades was produced by studebaker, curtis wright, kaiser jeep, a.m. general, and in canada by bombardier.

cheers!!

Thanks Mike:
You are correct it seems. The odd bending angles of the fenders threw me off and of course if you compare to an Inter, what is left of the hood could look just like theirs.
I was also a bit fooled by the front wheels which are an identical pattern to the Inter. I do not follow post war vehicles much and now see that wheel pattern followed on into the fifties at least.
Thanks and cheers.
Bill
