Hi All
I was wondering if anyone would care to provide opinions (any ole opinion will do) about this hat badge. The lugs have been neatly cut off and the presence of solder residue on the back leads me to believe it was mounted to something else. It's definately brass ( not plastic ![]() All references that I can find online show it to be authentic but I'm looking for additional thoughts. regards Darrell |

1CPB, Darrell, hard to tell if it's original or a repro. Take it as the former and honour it accordingly; never mind the pic in the "I'll Start" thread in the Relatives Forum, I have paraded with some of these guys, because of the Airborne connection to the modern-day QOR.
Skag sent me this to post on his behalf:

Post it over on M Dorosh's site: http://www.network54.com/Forum/28173/ The guys over there seem to relish looking over the harder to find stuff, and between them have the expertease to determine the origionality, or lack thereof. |

Darrell,
Your first photo looks odd but I suspect that it is just the photography and varnish that you say has been applied. The details on both the obverse and reverse look totally correct. IMO you have an original badge and although the value will suffer from the removal of the lugs it is still a desireable piece. Cheers, Steve |

Hiya
Thanks guys. Nice pic, Geoff. Thank Jon for me. I too have a loose AB connection but not that era (Coin #04688) Yes, Rob, good idea. I'll see they can add to my knowledge about this particular badge. Hi Steve. It looks odd as I scanned it and didn't photograph it. Batteries were dead in the digi-cam. It does look odd in those scans. I'll try some pics instead. My thanks to you all. regards Darrell |

I still like the details that I can see and believe it to be original. It is rather dark looking from that varnish and could benefit from having it carefully removed. There are a number of individuals that would be able to replace the lugs if you so desired. Unfortunately, I don't have any names to give you but if you ask around I'm sure someone can help.

Have had a few of these over the years...despite the laquer finish, the rear of the badge makes me think that this is a good one.I think this one is as good as gold. cheers,Mike.

I have to agree with others here...the badge looks good to me. I compared it side by side with my own original examples and it passes the muster IMO. The luds although cut off do appear to have been sweated on as opposed to soldered, which is good.
