I think this C60L was delivered to the British under Demand S/M 2019 but direct to the Mid-East for assembly in Alexandria. It was then issued to the AIF, etc.

Yes David ,
Quite a few of these ex Middle East cab 12 3 tonners ended up on the Nth - South road in the Northern Territory after being re issued . There is an excellent book around detailing the service of an AIF driver , he describes how they returned to Adelaide with their desert trucks , his unit ( a petrol company ) brought back a WOT2 also, and there is even a list of census numbers in the appendix . I wrote up a review of the book for the VMVC newsletter . I will try to find it . Mike ISBN 0 646 08319 8 : The Diary of Driver F.G. Mathieson NX 18655 published 1992 Presented in diary form , this intriguing soft cover book of 200 pages , describes the army life of a driver in the 2nd A.I.F., beginning with his enlistment in the 7th Div ammunition sub park . The authors unit initially served in the Middle East and he describes in great detail , the everyday adventures he went through driving supply trucks . His unit returned to Australia in March 42 , and the book includes a detailed list of the units desert vehicles unloaded at Adelaide . His unit was renamed as the 2/107 General Transport Company and it was posted to central Australia where , the units veteran desert trucks were literally driven into the ground . Trucks on issue included 1940 model 3 Ton Chevs and some 4X4 Chevs ( probably cab 12 models ). The book gives an insight into the harsh treatment these vehicles were subjected to. Towards the wars end , the author drove DUKWS in Borneo, he went through some hair raising episodes there as Japanese suicide missions attacked his campsite. The authors snapshots are reproduced and the 7th Div ammn sub park roll call is listed , as they embarked for the M.E Overall, the book is quite a good read for anyone into WW2 transport , it is particularly relevant as it has an Australian aspect, not often read

Census Numbers would be very interesting! Thanks for mentioning this book. Shane has sent me copies of papers that clearly the National Archives in London don't have!
