While not Australian, here is an 11 set base on Mk.1* Canadian Carrier. These were most often removed for space or to allow for mounting a 19 set, shock mount and adapter. Note how the armour was removed, most likely to allow for a better photograph of the wireless mount....

Looks like they not only removed the armour for a better view, but also removed the sparkplugs so as to have a measure for the cumalative rainfall in that area.

Naw... it's just that spark plugs have pointy ends and are uncomfortable to sit on as you're admiring your 11-set base.
