Keith Webb's picture of a carrier "Dozer" conversion reminded me of the Strickland Carriers that were converted in the late '40s by the Victorian Dept of Agriculture as a low cost tractor for sale to farmers in the austerity years. These had the upper armour removed, the driver sat over the rear diff and had the gear stick between his legs like a tractor. Amongst other changes they also had a vaporiser fitted to the carb to enable it to run on Power Kero. Does anyone have any pictures of a converted Strickland carrier?

Although this looks like a reasonably professional conversion the driver is located in the front, not repositioned at the rear.

Yes, this looks like a one-off job to an LP1 carrier (Sacrilege!), but the Stricklands had the same general appearance with all the armour above the waistline cut off, but with the driving position relocated over the back. The "storing" of a steering wheel in the back of the Uralla carrier reminded me of the Strickland.

Hi Keefy
One of my MLU "Lurker" mates is interested in your October 2003 image of the Strickland, in particular the possible aircraft fuselage in the background. Can you supply more details please and perhaps merge this with the current Strickland Thread. ![]()
