Another pic from the Alexander Turnbull gallery in NZ, taken in Libya 1941. It shows a different way of removing a tyre from it's two rim halves. What's not unusual is the crowd that has gathered to watch someone else do the hard work. In fact, the guy on the right seems to have a beer in his hand! More than 60 years later this method of assisting is still as popular as ever.
